Criminal Justice Club

Introduction:

The criminal justice club was resurrected in 2004 with the new coordinator, Kathy McCabe.  The club meets for social and community events.  The club has adopted College Way as a clean up community project and each winter they assist the Special Olympics by staffing the banquet for the athletes participating in the Winter Olympics.  The club has also participated in the City of Bend’s Christmas Parade and in the Spring they participate in National Police Week, bringing attention to the Officers who have died in the line of duty.  They provide a luncheon for the Local Police Agencies in appreciation for their continued service to our community.

 Proposition:

ASCOCC,

I am applying once again for ASCOCC funds to assist the Criminal Justice Club for planned events and recruitment for the 2007-2008 academic year.  The club which has been active for three years now is committed to providing experiences tat enhance the COCC CJ students' experiences here and several of our events benefit the community.

As you know I am the club advisor, and the following are current students in the club:
1.  Patricia Schumway
2.  Jeri Rodewald
3.  Kelly Larson
4.  Heather VonDiest-Kolb
5.  Lee Thost

The events whoch have proved success in the past and which we would again like to pursue in the 2007-2008 academic calendar are as follows:

Club T-shirts    $500.00
Provide advertisement for the CJ program and are worn as our "uniform" in community events like the blood drive and road clean up

Junior Police Academy    $1000.00
This is presented at the Bend Middle School and targets potential COCC students.  Funds used for refreshments, t-shirts, supplies like finderprinting kits, photo equipment, paper and pencils.  We also provide pizza, chips and water at the event, as well as certificates of completion.  There are generally up to 100 participants.

Police Week    $500.00
We provide a display of Oregon Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty - in order to honor their memory.  We also buy blue ribbons that are worn throughout the nation that week.  Finally, we provide a luncheon for the Deschutes County Sheriff's Department.

Total Request: $1900.00

Thank you for any consideration in funding from student fees for the 2007-2008 academic year.
