Forestry Club

February 1, 2007

To Whom it May Concern,

I am submitting this request on behalf of the COCC Forestry Club (Forestry Mavericks). The primary activities of the club for the past two years have focused around supporting members of the timber sports competition.

The club participates in multiple activities ranging from campus recruitment and club fun days to firewood cuts. Recently the club has started working with the local VA and High Desert Museum, processing and delivering firewood to local veterans and veteran’s families. Additionally, the club has entered into partnership with the COCC Multicultural Club and Warm Springs Forest Products (WSFP). WSFP has donated wood for the two clubs to process and sell as a fundraiser. Deschutes County also allows the Forestry Club access to County forest land, for firewood cutting.

The Club is also associated with the Central Oregon Society of American Foresters (COSAF) as the student Chapter and has taken part in multiple seminars and meetings in conjunction with the COSAF. The Forestry Club will be representing COCC at the Oregon SAF state meetings held in Bend this spring of 2007 as well as representing COCC at the National SAF meeting in Portland in October of 2007.

I feel that these activities demonstrate the Forestry Club’s contribution to individual student success as well as enhancement of the college experience and community benefit as stated in the ASCOCC mission statement.

I have attached a proposed budget of activities for the 2007-2008 academic year. If you have any questions regarding this proposal please contact me at 383-7755 or mfisher@cocc.edu.
