Re: Application for Funding through Student Fees for 2007-2008.

I. The COCC Nursing Program students of the Class of 2008 have organized and founded a Nursing Club for the purposes of offering to its members unique learning experiences and opportunities to socialize outside of the classroom, as well as, providing the greater community with its services related to health care.

The Club's plans and goals include the following:

1) Participation in the Bend Parks and Recreation Health Fair and community sports events with booths set up for community education, blood pressure checks, and "re-hydration stations".

2) Offer vital sign checks (blood pressure, respiration and pulse rates, and temperature measurements at community assisted living and senior residential facilities.

3) Recruit speakers related to the health care profession and prospective employers in the field (a job fair) to provide Club members with continuing education and opportunities to explore career options.

4) Attend COCC Nursing Program orientation sessions for the purpose of encouraging prospective applicants and answer questions from first-hand

experience related to time and emotional commitments involved in participation in the program.

5) Explore opportunities for Club members to be involved in community service projects in conjunction with St. Charles Medical Center, The Center, Bend Memorial Clinic, the Bend Senior Center and the Oregon Department of Health (i.e. "Shots for Tots" program).

6) Organize social events (i.e. pot luck dinners and picnics) to encourage Club members to share their families and experiences outside of the rigors of the Nursing Program environment.

7) Sponsor participation for several students in the Student Nurse Conference in Portland next Spring (2008) at a cost of $15/student plus a subsidy for the expense of gas (transportation).
